WOLFPACK SKATE GIRLS – MALAYSIA

Projects

In the diverse, misogynistic and primary Islamic Malaysian culture, women are seen and treated as second class citizens. Wolfpack Skate Girls was created and has been operating since 2018 to stand up against the violence the local culture often represents and is inflicted upon girls and women through longboarding, education and social activities while creating safe spaces for the girls in at-risk areas.

We host weekly sessions for our crew that are open to the community, we also host a weekly session in Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (RACTAR) orphanage and have weekend gatherings at the Wolfpack house (house of our PM) where the girls do their homework, share and learn.

In 2022 we want to expand and create our own “safe house” to shelter girls who are already in the program and suffer from sexual and domestic abuse in their family houses. The aim is also to expand our programs to Sri Lanka and Solomon, hosting bi-monthly free sessions and workshops open to the community (sessions that already took place during the first month of 2020 but had to stop due to the current covid situation).

Through weekly sessions, Wolfpack was not only established to create safe spaces for girls and teach them how to skate but also empower their personal development, work on their self-esteem, social skills, trust issues, help to heal and improve their living conditions though coaching sessions, constant encouragement and being exposed to different life prospects.

The girls from the Wolfpack crew host themselves weekly sessions at the RACTAR orphanage. This beautiful action allows them to share what they’ve learnt and project themselves as community leaders, being agents of change and bringing what they have learned to other kids living in even harder situations.

Wolfpack is also involved in diverse activities such as helping local refugee families, buy groceries for the elderly, buy and support local students buying stationary to those who can’t afford it etc.
